White male comedians becoming the minority? Andrew Schulz has built an impressive resume ranging from simultaneously starring on five MTV2 shows to co-hosting the viral podcast Brilliant Idiots with Charlamagne Tha God. Despite all of his success, Andrew still believes that being a white male comedian is a handicap in today’s comedy industry. Although I have not personally experienced blatant discrimination as a white comedian, other televised comics like Jarrod Harris (34:00 Mark) and Mark Normand (15:20 Mark) have expressed similar concerns to Andrew’s with Hot Breath! Podcast. Is this the sign of a new comedy revolution or just white privilege whining? Looking around the current comedy landscape, I can’t help but see validity in their statements. Either way, I have a feeling this is just the beginning of a new comedy controversy.

I’m a 30 year old white dude. That’s not what the industry is looking for right now. If I was trans I’d be on every f*cking stand-up special in the world…Being 6’2” with a full head of hair, white makes life pretty great. In stand-up, I’ve gotta work extra hard to compete ..… funny is not about funny anymore. It’s about boxes you check off.

Listen below to decide for yourself. Andrew voices his concerns at the 29:00 mark.
